What ASQA Looks for in RTO Marketing and Advertising

Marketing is how RTOs attract students, but it is also an area ASQA takes seriously. Advertising that is unclear or misleading can create compliance problems, even when it is unintentional. This guide covers what ASQA looks for in RTO marketing and advertising, and how to promote your RTO with confidence.

Why Marketing Is a Compliance Issue

The requirements are clear that information given to current and prospective students must be accurate and not misleading, as ASQA sets out in its Information and Transparency Practice Guide. That makes your website, ads, brochures and social posts part of your compliance picture, not separate from it. Good marketing and good compliance are meant to work together.

What ASQA Looks For

A few areas come up again and again:

  • Your registration code, or a link to your listing on the National Register

  • Accurate representation of the services you offer

  • A clear distinction between nationally recognised training and any other training you deliver

  • Correct use of the nationally recognised training logo

  • No guarantees of outcomes that are outside your control

The theme across all of these is honesty. If a claim could mislead a prospective student, it is worth rethinking.

Common Traps

The issues ASQA highlights are familiar ones: omitting the full title or code of a training product, not clearly distinguishing nationally recognised training from other training you deliver, marketing products that are superseded or no longer open for enrolment, using images that do not reflect your actual facilities, and losing track of the materials in circulation about your RTO. Most are easy to avoid once you know to look for them.

Getting It Right

Compliant marketing comes down to a few habits: keep your course information accurate and current, distinguish clearly what is nationally recognised, use logos correctly, and only make claims you can back up. Reviewing your materials regularly keeps them both effective and compliant.

Where Shared Services Help

Keeping marketing accurate is ongoing work, especially as courses and arrangements change. Bluedge Shared Services can review your marketing and website against the requirements and help keep your course information current, so your promotion stays both effective and compliant.
